Features & Compatibility
ODROID-M1S with pre-installed Home Assistant
The ODROID-M1S is a compact single-board computer and a versatile development platform from Hardkernel. For this offer, we install the Home Assistant Operating System (HAOS) on the internal 64 GB eMMC storage after you place your order. We use the version officially provided by the Home Assistant project for the ODROID-M1S – not a custom-developed or modified version of Home Assistant.
This means you do not need to install the operating system yourself. You only need to complete the initial personal setup and connect your smart home devices.
The Rockchip RK3566 combines four ARM Cortex-A55 cores with up to 1.8 GHz. Together with the LPDDR4 RAM and the soldered eMMC storage, the board is suitable as a space-saving server for automations and the central management of compatible smart home devices. Network connectivity is provided via Gigabit Ethernet.
The M1S is approximately 20% flatter and consumes about 20% less power compared to the ODROID-M1, according to the manufacturer. This offer includes the version without fitted I/O pin headers as well as a passive heatsink, case, and power supply.
Functions and expansion options
Compact continuous operation: The passive cooling operates without a fan. The manufacturer states around 1.1 W in idle and 3.52 W under full CPU load; connected devices and software influence actual consumption.
Flexible memory expansion: In addition to the integrated 64 GB eMMC, there is a microSD slot and an M.2 connector for NVMe SSDs available. SATA M.2 SSDs are not supported.
Connections for your own projects: USB and UART allow compatible peripherals to be connected. This variant does not have fitted I/O pin headers.
Graphics and AI hardware: The Mali-G52-MP2 GPU and the integrated RKNN NPU are part of the board hardware. Their use requires appropriate software and drivers and is not a guaranteed function of the Home Assistant pre-installation.
ODROID-M1S vs. Home Assistant Green – Frequently Asked Questions
Is the ODROID-M1S an alternative to the Home Assistant Green?: Yes. Both devices run the official Home Assistant OS and offer comparable performance. The ODROID-M1S also provides more storage and additional connectivity options.
What advantages does the ODROID-M1S offer over the Home Assistant Green?: You get 64 GB of eMMC storage instead of 32 GB, an M.2 slot for NVMe SSDs, and USB 3.0. This gives the ODROID-M1S greater flexibility for expansion.
Is the ODROID-M1S as fast as the Home Assistant Green?: Yes, performance is comparable. Both devices use the Rockchip RK3566 with four CPU cores and 4 GB of RAM.
Do I need to install Home Assistant myself?: No. We preinstall the official Home Assistant OS for you. Simply connect the device to power and your network, then complete the initial setup.
Will I receive official Home Assistant updates?: Yes. The ODROID-M1S is officially supported by Home Assistant. Core and OS updates can be installed directly through Home Assistant, just like on the Home Assistant Green – without modified firmware or unofficial community builds.
Can I use Zigbee, Thread, Matter, or Z-Wave?: Yes. Just like the Home Assistant Green, the ODROID-M1S requires compatible adapters or gateways for Zigbee, Thread, and Z-Wave. Matter is supported either directly over your network or through a Thread Border Router, depending on the device.
Can I transfer my existing Home Assistant installation?: Yes. You can restore a backup of your existing Home Assistant installation on the ODROID-M1S. This allows you to transfer most of your settings, integrations, and automations.
